Bulldogs End Season With Tough Loss To Jackson St.

ATLANTA, GA---South Carolina State closed on its season in a tough 28-7 loss to SWAC Champion Jackson State in the annual Cricket Wireless Celebration Bowl Saturday (Dec.14) inside Mercedes Benz Stadium.

The 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion finished the season at 9-3 under first-year head coach and MEAC Coach of the Year Chennis Berry.

MEAC Offense Player of the Year Eric Phoenix surpassed the Single Season Passing Record finishing his career with 2,603-yards passing (previous record was held by Malcolm Long 2507 in 2009). Phoenix also tied the record for Touchdowns in a season with 20.

The defense was spearheaded by All-MEAC linebacker Aaron Smith with a game-high 17 tackles (12 solo) and 1 TFL. Teammates Jarod Washington added 10, while Diego Addison finished with nine tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception.

Defensive line was led by Josh Barker with seven tackles, three (3) tackles for loss for 5 yards, one sack and one forced fumble.

On special team's senior punter Dyson Roberts led the way with seven (7) punts for 286-yards and an average of 40.9 yards per punt with an long of 62-yards, one inside the 20 and two with 50+ yards or more.
