PRINCESS ANNE, MD- Freshman forward Taniya McGowan tossed in a team-high 16 points, while the Lady Bulldogs pushed a strong effort in the first half, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped an 45-63 decision to host Maryland Eastern Shore inside the Hytche Center Monday (Jan. 29) night.
McGowan also grabbed seven (7) rebounds giving her eight double digit performance on the season. Graduate point guard, Morgan Beacham contributed another 11 points.
UMES was able to pull away late in the third quarter to increase the point deficit to double figures, 30-45 to secure the win over the SCSU. Leading the charge for the Lady Hawks was Mahogany Lester with 15 points and Lainey Allen added 12 points.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 1-19 overall, 0-4 in conference, meanwhile, the Lady Hawks improved to 10-10 overall, 3-2 in the conference.
UP NEXT: SC State returns home for a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest to kick off black history month. The Lady Bulldogs will open with Morgan State on Saturday, Feb. 3rd, tipoff is at 2 PM. The weekend series will conclude with Coppin State on Monday, Feb 5th which will also be the "Play4Kay" game. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 PM.
