ORANGEBURG, SC—Junior guard
Michael Teal finished with a team-high 17 points and six (6) assist to lead South Carolina State to an, 71-68, win over top-ranked North Carolina Central Saturday (Jan.20) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing skid and a three game to the Eagles.
SC State improves to 5-14 overall, 1-2 in the MEAC, while NCCU falls to 10-8 overall, 2-1 in the league.
Raquan Brown added 13 points, while sophomore guard
Jordan Simpson finished with six (6) points and six (6) rebounds in the win. Teammates
Wilson Dubinsky added eight (8), while
Atiba Taylor and
Omar Croskey chipped in seven (7) each respectively.
The Eagles led 36-33 during intermission.
NCCU led by six (6), 65-59 late in the second half, after Dubinsky cut the lead on a three-pointer at the 5:14 mark. A layup by Croskey with 2:48 remaining tied the game, followed by a pair of free-throws from the charity stripe with 0:15 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the Bulldogs.
SCSU led in several categories including Points in The Paint (40-34), Points of Turnovers (22-15), Second Chance Points (16-8), Fast Break Points (10-4) and Bench Points (54-13).
The Eagles were led by Po' Boigh King and Ja' Darius Harris with 19 each in the loss.
