Bulldogs Close Out Season With Tough 42-38 Defeat To Spartans

ORANGEBURG, SC— With several veteran Bulldog players out in the season finale, South Carolina State had a hard time avoiding a scrappy Norfolk State Spartan team and a, 42-38, setback Saturday (Nov. 19th) at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium|Willie Jeffries Field.

Twelve (12) senior Bulldog football players, two (2) student athletic trainers, two (2) cheerleaders along with several band members were honored in a pregame ceremony on Senior Day.

Tyrece Nick who filled in for the injured Corey Fields, Jr., finished 8-of-15 for 137-yards and two touchdowns. Nick also had 12 carries for 33-yards and a touchdown.

Dhani Dixion (4-61-yards and a touchdown) and Jacory Benson (18-53-yards) posted a solid day rushing, while redshirt senior wide receiver Shaquan Davis grabbed six catches for 109-yards and two touchdowns.

Davis, this season alone finished with 45 catches for 934-yards and 11 touchdowns and set several school records in becoming the schools All-time Reception Yardage Leader (2,607), All-time Career Touchdown Leader (29) and Leader of Reception for Yards per Season (50.5 ypg).

The Bulldog's defense was spearheaded by linebacker BJ Davis with 10 tackles and one interception, along with Demarkiss Doe with six tackles on the day

South Carolina State close out the season at 3-8 overall, 1-4 in the MEAC.
