SC STATE’S BANKS SETS PR AT CROSS COUNTRY EVENT

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State sophomore Jada Banks established a personal record and earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 18:57.6 Saturday at the Buccaneer Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Charleston Southern.

Banks helped the Lady Bulldogs to a sixth-place finish (144 pts.) in the team standings as SC State completed the 5K course in a combined time of 1:55.09. Host Charleston Southern, behind Maddie Wheatley's top time of 18:33.5 and five of the top seven runners, won the team title (29 pts.) with a time of 1:35.04.

Other runners for the SC State women -- all freshmen -- were Ashanti Meyers, 24th (21:59.6); Makylah Jones, 31st (23:34.8); Mackenzi Zimmerman, 38th (24:19.6); and Makayla Jones, 44th (26:17.7).

The SC State men, who did not vie for the team title, were paced by freshman Andrew Latimer, a transfer from Arkansas Pine Bluff, with a time of 20:56.5 and a 22nd place finish.

Charleston Southern had the top two runners and three of the top five to win the men's competition (18 pts.), covering the 6K course in a time of 1:38:59.
