NORMAL, AL—Redshirt sophomore quarterback
Corey Fields, Jr. finished 14-of-28-2 for 213-yards and a touchdown, while
Shaquan Davis added a team-high five (5) catches for 140-yards and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped its season opener, 42-41, to Alabama A&M Saturday (Sept. 4
th) at Louis Crews Stadium.
Redshirt freshman
Kendrell Flowers posted a solid day running the ball with 14 carries for 80—yards and three (3) touchdowns. Fields added nine (9) rushes for 89-yards and a score in the loss. Graduate running back
Alex James finished with 13 carries for 73-yards.
Special teams performed extremely well with
Rakim White exciting the crowd with 106 All-Purpose yards to go along with freshman punter
Dyson Roberts five (5) punts for 167-yards (33.4 yards per punt) with a long of 42-yards.
The Bulldog offense finished with 455-yards total offense including 242 rushing yards and 268 passing.
BJ Davis led the charge on defense with and senior linebacker
Chad Gilchrist finished with a team-high 10 tackles each.
Next up South Carolina State travel to take on nationally ranked Clemson Saturday (Sept. 11
th) in Death Valley. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
