Bulldogs Take On Nationally-Ranked ACC Powerhouse No. 2 Duke

DURHAM, NC—The South Carolina State (3-7) men's basketball team will face their biggest challenge of the year when they take on host nationally-ranked No. 2 Duke (7-1) in a non-conference battle Tuesday (Dec. 14th) at Cameron Indoor Arena. Tip-of is 8 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY (Series tied 7-0)
  • This will be the seventh (7th) meeting between the two schools with Duke leading the series 7-0.
  • The last time the two teams met Duke won 120-26 on Nov. 21, 1998 in Durham.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Bulldogs knocked off High Point 67-66 in the 1st Annual No Room For Racism Classic in Rock Hill, SC.
  • Three Bulldogs scored in double figures with freshman forward Jemel Davis (six rebounds), graduate forward Deaquan Williams (five rebounds) and junior guard Rahsaan Williams all tossed in 12 points respectively in the win. 
  • South Carolina State improved to 3-7 overall on the season.
  • Meanwhile, No. 2 ranked Duke suffered their first loss of the season 66-71. Wendell Moore, Jr. finished with a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
A LOOK AT BOTH TEAMS
  • The Bulldogs is led in scoring by Cameron Jones with 11.5 points per game, while TJ Madlock is second with 9.3 points and 4.7 rebounds.
  • Graduate forward Edward Oliver-Hampton is the leader on the boards with seven (6.7) rebounds and 7.3 ppg.
  • Duke is led by Michael John-Wright tossing in 20.7 points and 5.2 rebounds, while teammate Lydell Elmore adds 11 points and 6.2 boards.
  • Junior Wendell Moore Jr., is the nation's only player averaging 17.0+ points, 6.0+ rebounds, 5.0+ assists and shooting .500+ from the field (17.8/6.5/5.6/.561).
  • Moore leads the ACC in assists (21st nationally), is fourth in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage and 15th in rebounding.
  • Freshman Paolo Banchero is the nation's leading true freshman scorer at 17.8 points. The ACC's Preseason Player of the Year, Banchero is ranked in the ACC's top 10 in scoring (17.8, fourth), free throw percentage (.838, fifth) and field goal percentage (.500, 10th).
UP Next for SC State
South Carolina State will host Carver College on Thursday (Dec. 16th ) at 7 p.m., followed by a showdown with Tennessee State on Saturday (Dec. 18th ) at 2 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
