1975 – In the Major League Baseball January Supplemental Draft, the first two picks were Eugene Richards (San Diego) and Willie Mays Aikens (California), both of SC State, marking a first that the 1-2 picks were from the same school. Both are in the SC State Athletic Hall of Fame.

Willie Mays Aikens is a former Major League Baseball first baseman. He had established himself as one of the top sluggers in the game before drugs derailed his career.

Eugene Richards Jr. is an American former Major League Baseball outfielder. He played eight seasons in the Majors, from 1977 until 1984, for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. As a rookie with San Diego in 1977, he set a modern-day MLB rookie single-season record for stolen bases.
