WSOC: Lady Bulldogs Close Out Season With Tough 5-4 Loss

CHARLESTON, SC—The South Carolina State women's soccer team closed out the season
with a tough, 5-4, loss to Charleston Southern on Saturday (Oct. 20th) at CSU Soccer Field.
Senior's Mikayla Goins (1), Serena Schwartz (1) and Jamey Thomas (2) all scored goals in the loss.
How It Happened

•    It took only four minutes for CSU to get on the board when Hayes scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season with the assist going to McDonald.

•    In the ninth minute, Robinson scored for the second time this season with McDonald credited with her second assist and third in the past two games.

•    The Bulldogs (3-11) got on the board in the 22nd minute when Jamey Thomas scored the first of her two goals in the game.

•    But the Bucs answered in the 32nd minute to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Pinkerton scored her second goal with Rush getting the first of two assists on the day.

•    Thomas scored again in the first four minutes of the second half to make it a one-goal game again.

•    The Bucs then appeared to put the game out of reach with consecutive goals by Fiedler in the 50th and 52nd minutes. Robinson
had her team-best sixth assist on the first one, and Rush assisted on the second.

•    The Bulldogs didn't go away without a fight. Mikayla Goins scored in the 61st minute, and Serena Schwartz added a goal with
just 27 seconds left to make for a one-goal final margin.

COACH SANDY BURRIS: "The seniors have really stepped up and led this team in the last part of the season, scoring 11 of the 16 goals.
They have improved as a unit in every position, especially defensively, giving up only on 7 goals. This team of women is phenomenal on and
off the field. I feel like we are peeking when most teams should. I wish they had a few more games to play."

"I would like to thank the players and their parents for trusting me to coach them and help develop them as successful group of young women
on and off the field. The one thing I am sure of, is the fight that they all have to overcame injuries and obstacles they have faced during the season
and that shows the true definition of Bulldog tenacity."
