ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State completed the third week with its second scrimmage Saturday (April 7
th) at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
The scrimmage was cut short due to the inclement of bad weather and thunder storms in the area. The Bulldogs however managed to get in about 60 plays, which lasted about a one hour and 15 minutes.
"With the weather being a factor we didn't get as much done as we wanted to today," said head coach Buddy Pough. "We still have a long way to go if we are going to be a good football, but I do see signs of improvement in some areas."
Pough praised the depth the Bulldogs bring back at the running back slot with Labron Morris,
Datron James and Jarius Jenkins, but also talked about newcomer Jacory Benson.
These guys have chance to be really special and can help us down the road," said Pough. "To be able to move the football against our defense and we have a really good defensive front with Paul McKiever,
Shaquille Crouch,
Tyrell Goodwin and
Bruce Johnson is a sign we are headed in the right direction."
"It's still some areas that concern me like the offensive line is showing some signs of improvement, but we have to get a little better with the linebacker corps," stated Pough. "Again we just have to keep working at it and I believe we have the right people (coaches) in place to get our players ready to play."
The Bulldogs will take a couple days off before returning to the field Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock, according to Pough.
