Box Score 2 HAMPTON, VA—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams both fell short of capturing a victory on the road at Hampton Saturday (Feb.17
th) at the HU Convocation Center.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to 9-15 overall, 4-8 in the MEAC after a tough, 42-60, defeat to the Lady Pirates. Junior forward Kesyha Lewis led SC State with a team-high 11 points in the loss.
The Lady Pirates avenged their early season loss and improved to 13-13 overall, 9-4 in the MEAC.
Three players led the way with Jephany Brown finishing with a game-high 17 points and Monnaz Finney-Smith added 15 and Ashley Bates 10 in the win.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs fell short ,66-79, to the Pirates in a hard fought battle to the end. Senior guard Patrell Rogers led SC State with a team-high 15 points, while sophomore forward
Damani Applewhite added 14 and six rebounds in the loss.
Hampton was led by Kalin Fisher with 14 points and six rebounds. Teammates Lysander Bracey added 13 and Jermaine Marrow and Akim Mitchell 10 each respectively.
The Bulldogs fall to 9-18 overall, 5-7 in the MEAC, while Hampton improves to 14-14 overall, 9-4 in the league.
Both teams return to action on Monday against Norfolk State in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown at Echols Hall. Tip-off is 6 p.m. for the women, with the men following in an 8 p.m. start.
