MBB: Bulldogs Embark On Four-Game MEAC Homestand

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team return to action on Saturday (Jan.13th) in the first of a four-game homestand versus visiting Howard in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 2 p.m. for the women, with the men following immediately in a 4 p.m. start.

The Bulldogs (5-12 overall, 1-1 MEAC) look to improve in league after a ,63-60, win over Delaware State on last week in Dover, DE. James Richardson led South Carolina State with a team-high 12 points, while sophomore forward's Damani Applewhite and Ozante Fields grabbed seven rebounds each in the win.

Graduate guard Dante Wright is the leader in scoring for the Bulldogs with 14.7 points and 2.6 rebounds. Wright is also ranked among the top three nationally in three-point attempts in the country.

Applewhite is the leader in the frontcourt with 6.1 rebounds and 11.1 points per outing.

Meanwhile, Howard (3-15 overall, 0-2 MEAC) looks to snap a three-game losing skid after suffering back-to-back league losses to FAMU (76-84) and Bethune-Cookman (87-92, L-OT) guard RJ Cole tossed in a game-high 30 and 32 respectively.

Cole is the leader for the Bison with 22.7 points and 3.3 rebounds, while Charles Williams adds 18.7 points 3.5 rebounds. Zion Cousins is the leader on the boards with 7.6 and 4.6 points per contest.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday and home against Maryland-Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m. for the women.  and a 7:30 p.m.  for the men.
