ORANGEBURG, SC---The South Carolina State men's tennis team posted back-to-back road victories over Gardner-Webb and DePaul to extend their three-match winning streak.
The Bulldogs improved to 6-7 overall, 2-0 in the MEAC.
South Carolina State knocked off Gardner-Webb Monday (Mar. 21) in Boling Springs, NC 4-3 in a non-conference matchup. The Bulldogs jumped out early claiming the doubles point, before posting single victories by
Martin Figura (6-1, 6-4) at the No. 1 spot; Vlayvslav Yanchenko (5-7, 6-3,6-3) at the No. 2 spot;
Jakub Vitek (4-6, 6-2, 7-5) at the No. 3 spot; and
Stanislav Baco (6-4,7-5) at the No. 5 spot.
In their second matchup with DePaul University Tuesday (Mar. 22) in Charleston, SC, the Bulldogs claimed an, 4-3, victory over the Blue Demons. SC State claimed the doubles point, while earning singles victories by Figura (6-1, 6-4) at the No.1 spot; Yanchenko (2-6, 6-4, 6-3) at the No. 2 spot and Vitek (7-6, 2-6, 6-0) at the No. 3 spot.
South Carolina State will resume Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play Friday (March. 24) against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla.
