Alexis Scott tossed in a season-high 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds along with two blocks, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State closed out the regular season with a tough, 53-45, defeat to Savannah State Thursday (Mar. 2) at Tiger Arena.
South Carolina State falls to 5-22 overall, 2-14 in the MEAC, while Savannah State improves to 11-18 overall 8-8 in the league. Tiyonda Davis led SSU with 10 points ,12 rebounds and a game-high eight (8) blocks in the win.
The Lady Bulldogs had a season best in rebounding dominating SSU 64-49. Graduate guard
Bryeasha Blair finished with 10 rebounds and five points, while sophomore forward
JaQuanna Murray added 11 rebounds. Junior forward
Jahmia Bradley had a solid night with eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.
SSU jumped out to a quick 10-point advantage, 19-9, off a jumper by Lauren Moss at the 6:54 mark in the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs sparked an 8-0 run to cut the lead to two, 19-17, with 2:28 remaining in intermission. Savannah State led 22-15 at halftime.
Rhianna Warren nailed a three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter to give SSU an, 48-49, lead. Turnovers down the stretch doomed the Lady Bulldogs as Savannah State forced a game-high 18 to hold on to a 53-45 victory.
