ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State Bulldogs host the visiting Pirates of Hampton in an Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader Monday (Feb.6) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m., immediately following the women's contest in a 5:30 p.m. start.

THE SERIES: Hampton holds a 21-20 edge over South Carolina State after a 68-66 road by the Bulldogs earlier this season.  Prior to that the Pirates posted an 81-69 victory over the Bulldogs in the championship game of last season's MEAC Tournament.

LAST TIMEOUT: South Carolina State look to bounce back after a tough last second 65-62 loss to Norfolk State on Saturday. Senior guard Eric Eaves led the way with a team-high 16 points, while junior forward Tashombe Riley and James Richardson added 11 in the loss.

Meanwhile, Hampton had four players in double figures in a 92-89 win over Savannah State on Saturday. Jermaine Marrow led Pirates with a team-high 22 points, while Trevond Barnes added 17 and Kalin Fisher 13 and Lysander Bracey with 12 points, respectively.

Eaves is the leader with 16.5 points per game. The Bulldogs also get offense from Tashombe Riley (11.2 points), Greg Mortimer (9.7) and James Richardson (9.3). Riley leads the team in rebounding at 5.0 per game.

Hampton (9-13 overall, 6-3/5th MEAC) is led by Marrow with 15.5 ppg and 3.0 apg, while teammate Lawrence Cooks adds 11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing. Charles Fisher-Wilson and AJ Astroth are the leaders on the boards with a little over 5.2 per game.

BULLDOG NOTE: Ed Stephens needs just eight (8) points and Eric Eaves needs 40 to join the elite 1000-point scorers in South Carolina State history.  Stephens amassed over 997 points in three seasons, while Eaves made his mark in two seasons with 960 career points. The last player to eclipse the 1000-point scoring mark was four-year starting guard Khalif Toombs back in 2012-13.
