Box Score NORFOLK, VA—
Bryeasha Blair poured in a game-high 29 points, while
Brittany Drumgoole added 16 but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped another tough Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest to Norfolk State 83-68 Wednesday at Echols Hall.
The Lady Bulldogs fall to 5-19 overall, 2-11 in the MEAC, while the Spartans improved to 14-10 overall, 9-3 in the league. SC State as a team shot well going 10 of 21 from behind the arc. Blair finished nailing 5 of 9 three-pointers in the loss.
NSU was led by Kiara Phillips with a team-high 18 points and teammate Gabrielle Swinson added 17 points and six rebounds. Kayla Roberts recorded the games only double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and a game-high seven blocks. Kieera Basey also finished with 10 in the win.
Norfolk State led 48-39 during intermission. Blair scored 16 of her game-high 29 points at the half.
Turnovers once again doomed the Lady Bulldogs down the stretch finishing with a game-high 23 on the day. South Carolina State managed to lead in several categories including rebounding (44-11), second chance points (14-12), and points from the bench (32-23).
Next up South Carolina State returns home to take on Coppin State on Saturday (Feb.18) in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 2 p.m. for the women, with the men following in a 4 p.m. start afterwards.
