ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's tennis team will open the 2017 campaign at home versus Radford University at the
Hardeep Judge Tennis Center on the campus of South Carolina State University in a non-conference matchup. First serve begins at 1 p.m.
South Carolina State is coming off a stellar season, where they captured the 2016 MEAC tournament championship and received the conference's automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Men's Championship. Last year, The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 3-1 conference mark and a 12-9 overall record.
Hardeep Judge the MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Coach has led the men's team to 13 championship crowns including a 72-9 league record in 15 seasons at the helm.
The preseason favorite to win the southern division title, South Carolina State returns a group of veteran players from last year's team.
All-MEAC and All-Tournament performers senior's
Martin Figura (Czech Republic), Alexsander Stupar (Serbia) ,junior's
Jakub Vitek (Czech Republic) and
Vladyslav Yanchenko (Ukraine) lead the way for South Carolina State.
Meanwhile, this will be Radord's first spring contest after playing a tough fall schedule in the Wake Forest Invitational (Winston-Salem, NC), Wolfpack Invitational (Raleigh, NC), ITA Atlantic (Blacksburg, VA) and Duke James Bonk Invite (Cary, NC)
South Carolina State returns to action this weekend in Statesboro, GA when they take on Georgia Southern on Saturday (Jan. 27) at 11 a.m., followed by Alabama State on Sunday (Jan. 28) 10 a.m.
