Box Score HAMPTON, VA— Sophomore guard DeJane James tossed in a game-high 17 points and six assist to lead top-ranked Hampton to an 80-46 victory over South Carolina State Wednesday (Jan.25) at the HU Convocation Center.
SC State (4-13 overall, 1-5 in the MEAC) was led by
Bryeasha Blair (Chicago, ILL/University of Central Florida) with 12 points and six rebounds, while sophomore center
JaQuanna Murray (Orangeburg, SC/Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS) added seven rebounds, three blocks and four points in the loss.
Junior guard/forward Monnazjea Finney-Smith finished with 13 points and freshman guard Ashley Bates added 11 in the win for the Lady Pirates, who improved to 12-7 overall, 6-0 in the league.
South Carolina State held a close margin in the first quarter five, 15-10, off a jumper by freshman forward
Alexis Scott (Anderson, SC/Westside HS). Bates knocked down two free-throws from the charity stripe late in the second quarter to give Hampton their largest lead of the half 24, 40-16 with over 1:43 remaining during intermission.
Hampton controlled the tempo majority of the second half to secure its sixth straight MEAC victory.
Sophomore center
Dashanique Peterson (Kingstree, SC/Kingstree HS) chipped seven points and two blocks on the evening for South Carolina State.

SC State will remain on the road when they travel to Princess Anne, MD to take Maryland-Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday (Jan. 28). Tipoff for the women is 2 p.m., with the men following in a 4 p.m. start.
