PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team completed its participation in the 2016 University of Maryland Eastern Shore Courtyard Classic on Saturday. They Lady Bulldogs lost 3-0 to Norfolk State and Rider University on Friday and was swept 3-0 by host UMES on Saturday at the Hytche Athletic Center.

SC State (0-8) played competitively against Norfolk State in the tournament opener, but fell 25-19, 25-18, 25-22. Briana Dafney paced the team with 12 kills and 1.5 total blocks. The Lady Bulldogs also got double-digit performances from Fabiola Plaza (17 assists) and Alexis Moses (14 digs).

The Lady Bulldogs had a tough time with Rider, dropping that match 25-7, 25-12, 25-13. Marcella Chestnut led SC State offensively in that match with six kills. She added five digs and one service ace. Defensively, Moses tallied nine digs, Dafney had six and KaShunyna Rooks had five.

UMES hit .451 as a team to take the match 25-11, 25-14, 25-11 from SC State on Saturday. Collectively, the Lady Bulldogs ended that match with 16 kills, 25 digs and 14 assists.

The Lady Bulldogs return home to Dukes Gym on Tuesday to take on Gardner-Webb in a 7 p.m. match.
