ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-23, 8-25, 16-25, 21-25) to The Citadel on Thursday night at Dukes Gymnasium.

SC State (0-19) was focused in the first set and took a 13-10 lead after three straight Citadel errors. A service ace by Ashante Finnie put the Lady Bulldogs up 21-15, but The Citadel (7-15) rallied to tie the set at 23-all. SC State held on to win the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Citadel dominated the second set winning 25-8 and ultimately won sets 3 and 4 to take the match.

Brianna Dafney led SC State with a match-high 14 kills. She added four block assists and two digs. Marcella Chestnut had nine kills and three digs, while Finnie had seven kills, five digs and 1.5 blocks. Fabiola Plaza had a team-high 27 assists.

The Lady Bulldogs make the short trip to Savannah, Ga. on Monday to play Savannah State at 5:30 p.m.
