MBB: Bulldogs Host Aggies In MEAC Basketball Action Monday

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team looks to extend their winning streak, when they host conference rival the visiting Aggies of N.C. A&T State Monday (Jan.11) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. for the women, with the men following immediately afterwards in a 7:30 p.m. start time.

Fans who cannot attend the game in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, can listen to the MEAC showdown on 93.7 FM the People's Station and the official station of SC State Athletics, with Paul Harris on the air for the play-by-play. There will be no video or live stats available.

The MATCHUP:

SC State (7-10, 2-1) is coming off an exciting 91-75 victory over last year's  regular season champions the Eagles of NC Central. The win for SC State marked its first victory against NCCU in 10 meetings, and the first time in the Division I era for NC Central. Sophomore guard Ed Stephens tossed in a team-high 23 points, while forward Tashombe Riley added 20 in the win. Three Bulldogs are in double-figures with Eaves leading with way with 14.8 points, and sophomore guard Ed Stephens's chips in 13.9.  Senior guard/forward Gabriel McCray tosses in 11.8 points, while grabbing 4.8 rebounds. All-MEAC Preseason forward/center Darryl Palmer is the leader on the boards with 5.6 and scoring 7.9 per game. SC State is grabbing almost 32.5 rebounds a game, while forcing over 11.6 turnovers.
 
North Carolina A&T (5-12, 2-1 MEAC) is coming off a tough 75-68 loss to Savannah State on Saturday. The Aggies will be looking to snap a four-game losing skid when they travel to Orangeburg. Senior forward Bruce Beckford leads the charge for N.C. A&T with 15.5 points per outing, while also shooting 48.2% from the field. Guard Ahmad Abdullah controls the pace for the Aggies and is averaging 3.6 assists per game. As a team the Aggies are shooting 65.5 % from the floor, while grabbing 33.7 rebounds contest.
