Women's Volleyball Hosts Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman This Weekend

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team opens Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend against conference foes Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. SC State hosts FAMU at 7 p.m. on Friday and B-CU at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Dukes Gym.

Last Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs (0-8) fell 3-0 at Mercer. Leading the Lady Bulldog effort was senior Melanie Williams, who had a double-double performance of 23 assists and 10 digs. For the season, freshman Brianna Dafney tallied 74 kills, while Williams has 240 assists. Sophomore Kirby Anderson leads the team defensively with 64 digs and 26 blocks.

FAMU (0-13) played the University of South Florida on Sunday, dropping that matchup 3-0. Pamela Soriano leads the Lady Rattlers with 102 kills, while Ailin Donati has 162 assists, Valentina Carrasco has 150 digs and Ginna Lopez has a team-leading 21 blocks.

B-CU (3-11) played at home on Tuesday and pulled off a 3-1 win over Stetson. The Lady Wildcats are led offensively by Delicia Pierre with161 kills and Hazel Ortiz-Rosado with 414 assists. Defensively, Normarie Rolon-Soto leads the way with 162 digs, while Phylecia Armstrong has 41 blocks.
