Box Score 3 ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team completed competition in the UNC Asheville Invitational Tournament on Saturday. SC State fell 3-0 (27-25, 25-12, 25-22) to New Orleans on Friday afternoon and lost 3-1 to both The Citadel and UNC Asheville on Saturday.
Melanie Williams earned all-tournament honors for her efforts over the weekend. In three matches, she totaled 95 assists, 21 digs and four service aces.
Against New Orleans, senior
Marissa Lawrence had a match-high 10 kills and Williams had a double-double of 23 assists and 10 digs. Lawrence repeated her 10-kill performance in the four-set loss (17-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-16) to The Citadel. She added 11 digs and sophomore
Ashante Finnie had eight kills and 10 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs (0-7) played hard against UNCA, but fell 25-22, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22 to the tournament host UNCA. Freshman
Brianna Dafney had a career-high 17 kills and added six digs and two aces. Sophomore
Kirby Anderson had 10 kills, a season-high 14 digs and four blocks.
SC State travels to Macon, Ga. next Saturday to take on Mercer University at 2 p.m.
