ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State conducted its first full live session in a two-hour workout Thursday morning, in full gear at Dawson Stadium. It was the first time during preseason the Bulldogs had full contact, according to head coach Buddy Pough.

"We had a chance to go full speed with the guys today," Pough said. " We have a few that's out nursing a minor injury but it gave our coaching staff a chance to evaluate some of the new and returning players."

The Bulldogs main focus of the day was imputing goal line team-style defensive and offensive schemes.

"It's important that we learn and figure out how to get the ball in the end zone during a goal line stance," said Pough. "But also on the other hand you want to be able to stop people from scoring on you in the process."

Pough, noted, "The defense is pretty good and it's hard to put anyone ahead of the other at this point. We have some players that are coming along but we have to take better care of the football and limit so many costly turnovers."

SC State will devote most of Friday's drills to preparing for Saturday's 3:10 p.m. scrimmage, the first of the preseason for Pough's team.

SC State will return to the field on Friday in a two-a-day practice session at 9:30 a.m. (Full) and an evening practice at 7:10 (Shells).

Coach Buddy Pough's team will hold its annual "Press and Picture Day" Saturday (Aug. 15), beginning at 9 a.m. at the O.C. Dawson Stadium before conducting its first preseason scrimmage at 3:10 p.m. The team's annual "Meet the Players Day", sponsored by The STATE Club, will be held August 22^nd at 3:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the second preseason scrimmage at 1 p.m.
