DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – South Carolina State took control of the Southern Division race, after a 7-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman Thursday (April 2) at the City Island Tennis Center.

Both teams entered the match with 3-0 conference records. The Bulldogs (12-2 overall, 4-0 MEAC) will clinch the Division's 1 No. 1 seed for the conference tournament April 17-19 in Cayce, South Carolina.

SC State claimed the doubles point early to jump ahead 1-0. In singles action, senior Rodney Carey def. Alexander Chepik (6-3, 7-6) at the No. 1 spot; sophomore Martin Figura def. Gilbert Rotich (6-4,7-5) at the No.2 spot; freshman Vladyslav Yanchenko def. Greg Almedia (6-2,6-0) at the No. 4 spot; sophomore Stanislav Baco def. Alvaro Barrera (6-3, 6-4, 1-0) at the No.5 spot and freshman Jakub Vitek def. Diego Garavito(7-5, 6-2) at the No. 6 spot.

Bethune-Cookman (12-12,3-1) can maintain its No. 2 status with a victory over Florida A&M in its regular season finale on April 11.
Sophomore Soufiane Mouline remains undefeated in singles action with a record of 13-0 on the season.
