HILTON HEAD, SC—The South Carolina State tennis teams posted impressive wins over George Mason in the Hilton Head Spring Break Classic held in Hilton Head, SC Monday (March.9).
The men dominated in rare form winning 6-1 over George Mason to improve to 7-1 on the season. Meanwhile, on the women's side the Lady Bulldogs snapped a three-game match losing streak in the 7-0 victory over GMU to improve to 3-6.
"The guys showed a lot of heart today in battling a strong George Mason program," said Bulldog men's head coach
Hardeep Judge. "The top of our lineup is really starting to play well."
The Bulldogs captured the doubles point early in the contest.
In men's single action, senior
Rodney Carey def. James Lang (7-6, 6-1)in the No. 1 spot; sophomore
Martin Figura def. Aaron Capitel (5-7, 6-2, 6-0) at the No. 2 spot; freshman
Vladyslav Yanchenko def. Joe Hill (7-5,3-6, 6-3) at the No. 3 spot; sophomore
Soufiane Mouline def. Conor Moran (2-6, 6-2,6-4) at the No.4 spot and sophomore
Edgar Diaz defeated Daniel Gutierrez , 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
The Lady Bulldogs also dominated early on, capturing the doubles point against George Mason.
