Bulldogs Dominate Knights 80-48 In Men’s Basketball Action

Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State closed out non-conference play with an, 80-48, crushing victory over St. Andrews Wednesday (Feb. 4) night at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

The Bulldogs improve to 9-15 overall, 6-3 in the MEAC. JUCO transfer Gabe McCray led SC State with the games on double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while junior forward Darryl Palmer tossed in a team-high 13 points, three rebounds and three blocks .

"It was a good win tonight versus St. Andrews," said head coach Murray Garvin. "We got a chance to play everyone tonight and you want to be able to reward your entire team for all their efforts."

Sophomore guard Greg Mortimer finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists, while freshman guard Edward Stephens and forward Tashombe Riley had a solid performance with nine points each  in the win.

The Knights were led by guard Titus Gary with 14 points and five rebounds, while teammate Jeff Guley grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the loss.

The Bulldogs defense was at its best forcing 15 turnovers, while scoring 20 unanswered points. SC State dominated the paint with 46 points and 41 from the bench.

 Garvin stated, "Now we must return our focus back to MEAC play and this is an important game against Coppin State on Saturday. Both teams (Morgan State and Coppin State) are playing well right now and we expect it to be a very competitive game in Baltimore."

SC State returns to action on Saturday (Feb.7) in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader with Coppin State in Baltimore, MD. Tipoff for the women is 2 p.m., with the men following immediately afterwards in a 4 p.m. start.
