MBB: SC State Host St. Andrews In Non-Conference Play

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team will take a break from conference play to take on the visiting Knights of St. Andrews University Wednesday (Feb.3) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 7 p.m.

SC State is off to its best start under head coach Murray Garvin with a 6-3 MEAC worksheet midway through the season. The Bulldogs earned a pair of tough wins over Hampton (65-56) on Monday (1/26/15) and Delaware State (78-74) on Saturday.

BULLDOG BITE: The Bulldogs also tally nearly seven steals per game while forcing almost 13 turnovers. Freshman guard Edward Stephens leads the way in scoring with 11.4 points, while sophomore guard Greg Mortimer chips 8.2 ppg and Karon Wright 8.1. Junior forward Darryl is the leader on the board with 7.0 rebounds, 7.2 points and 2.2 blocks per game.

The Knights (8-10 overall, 5-9 in the NAIA) of the National Association Of Intercollegiate Athletics recently snapped a three-game losing streak with a 73-70 victory over Bluefield College.

 St Andrews is led by senior guard Aaron Smith with 16.4 ppg, while teammates Quentin Duncan and R. Outar each averages a little over 12 per contest.  Outar is the leader on the boards with 9.4, while Titus Gary and Jeff Gulley chips in 11.3 each.

SC State returns to action on Saturday (Feb.7) in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader with Coppin State in Baltimore, MD. Tipoff for the women is 2 p.m., with the men following immediately afterwards in a 4 p.m. start.
