Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—South Carolina State got off to a slow shooting start, which led to an 69-54 setback against Bethune-Cookman Monday (Dec.7) at Moore Gymnasium.
South Carolina State falls 4-5 overall, 1-1 in the MEAC, while Bethune-Cookman improves to 4-4 overall, 1-0 in the league.
Junior forward
Tashombe Riley led the Bulldogs with 12 points and six rebounds, while junior guard
Eric Eaves added 11. Sophomore
Ed Stephens finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Wildcats started the game on a 10-0 run -- with four players reaching double-figures.
BC-U was led by
Mario Moody with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Randy Holmes and
Diamante Lewis scored 13 points each, and
Quinton Forrest added 10. Holmes grabbed 11 rebounds and Lewis led with three 3-pointers. Moody and
LaRon Smith each had three blocked shots.
Bethune-Cookman built a 27-13 lead on a
Jordan Potts basket in the paint with 4:16 left in the first half and neither team would score again before halftime.
The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 36-24 on points in the paint and 26-13 on second-chance points.
South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 12) when they host Jacksonville University in a non-conference matchup at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
