Kiana Stone hit .412 and had a match-high nine kills to lead the South Carolina State women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win (25-14, 26-24, 25-18) over Savannah State on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs completed the season sweep of the Lady Tigers and earned a spot in the 2015 MEAC Volleyball Tournament that will be held on Nov. 20-22 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.
Match NotesSC State (4-18, 4-6 MEAC) posted quick wins in the first and third sets. The Lady Bulldogs led 22-18 in set two, but Savannah State went on a 5-1 run to tie the set at 23-all. Savannah State took a 24-23 lead on a Lady Bulldog attack error. A kill by
Brianna Dafney tied the set at 24-all and a Lady Tiger attack error gave SC State a 25-24 advantage.
Kirby Anderson followed with a kill to seal the set win for SC State.
SC State Highlights and StatsShandice Sluch and Dafney each tallied seven kills and seven digs.
Melanie Williams had 29 assists, 10 digs and two kills, while Anderson finished with five kills, four total blocks and two service aces.
Marcella Chestnut had a match-high 12 digs.
Savannah State Highlights and StatsGabrielle Nathaniel led Savannah State (0-31, 0-10 MEAC) with seven kills. Caitlynn Masoe had 21 assists, four kills and seven digs, and Alexis Washington had 10 digs.
Up NextPairings for the MEAC Tournament will be announced on Monday, November 16. The top four teams from each division will compete in the tournament. The teams representing the MEAC Southern Division in order of finish are: Bethune-Cookman (13-15, 10-0 MEAC), Florida A&M (7-20, 7-3 MEAC), North Carolina A&T (7-13, 5-5 MEAC) and SC State.
Northern Division representatives are: Howard (15-13, 11-1 MEAC), Morgan State (12-14, 9-3 MEAC), Maryland Eastern Shore (20-6, 8-3 MEAC) and Coppin State (9-14, 6-6 MEAC).
