Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Alabama at Birmingham defeated the SC State women's basketball team 71-38 on Friday afternoon at Bartow Arena.
SC State (1-2) started slow and was down 11-3 with 5:40 left in the first quarter. Ashleigh Outler came off the bench and knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to get the Lady Bulldogs within two, 11-9. But UAB (1-2) outscored SC State 14-3 the rest of the period to take a 25-12 lead into the second period.
The Blazers held the lead for the remainder of the game, eventually mounting a 33-point lead (71-38) for the win. UAB shot 41.3 percent for the game (26-of-63) and outrebounded SC State 54-22. Chelsee Black led the Blazers with 19 points, while Brittany Winborne had a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs hit 15 of their 48 shot attempts (31.3 percent) and forced 14 Blazer turnovers, while committing 11. Outler paced SC State in scoring with a team-high 11 points. Jasmine Coleman had two points, four rebounds, one block and one steal. JaQuanna Murray finished with two assists and a game-high two blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action in 10 days when they host Wofford College in a 6 p.m. matchup on Nov. 30.
