Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team went 1-1 this past weekend, beating North Carolina Central 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-19) on Friday night and then falling 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18) to North Carolina A&T on Sunday afternoon.
NCCU Match NotesSC State (3-18, 3-6 MEAC) dominated the entire match and cruised to a three-set win to complete the season sweep of NCCU (3-22, 2-5 MEAC).
Kirby Anderson led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 kills and seven total blocks (one solo).
Brianna Dafney added nine kills and nine digs, while
Melanie Williams had a match-high 29 assists.
Marcella Chestnut had a match-high-tying 10 digs.
NC A&T Match NotesThe Aggies (7-11, 5-3 MEAC) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after winning the first two sets. But the Lady Bulldogs wouldn't let the third set go without a fight. A&T led 21-18 in set three, but SC State went on a 4-1 run to tie things up at 22-all. Dafney and Anderson posted a big block to take a one-point lead and the Lady Bulldogs sealed the set win on an Aggie attack error. SC State hung around with A&T in set four, but eventually lost 25-18.
Ashante Finnie and Dafney each tallied 10 kills for SC State and
Kiana Stone and Anderson had nine kills apiece. Chestnut and Anderson had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Up NextThe Lady Bulldogs close out the regular season with their final MEAC match at Savannah State at 1 p.m. n Sunday. Earlier this season, SC State defeated SSU 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-19) in Dukes Gym.
SC State currently sits in 5
th place in the MEAC Southern Division standings, but holds the tie breaker over NCCU who is currently ranked 4
th. The top four teams advance to the MEAC Tournament. Final standings will be announced after all teams complete their MEAC schedules this weekend.
