ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team returns to action on Monday (Nov. 16) in the home-opener against Voorhees College at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (0-1) look to rebound after a tough 74-54 defeat to intrastate rival College of Charleston on Friday. Junior guard
Greg Mortimer led SC State with a team-high 13 points, while teammate senior
Gabriel McCray added 12 in the loss.
Meanwhile, Voorhees (4-2) enters the contest looking to knock off the Bulldogs and keep their winning streak alive, after posting wins over Edward Waters (Fla.) 64-62 and Brewton-Parker (Ga.) 90-84.
The Tigers have three players averaging double-figures with forward Jeffery Mack leading with way with 19.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Guard Desmond Lewis is second with 16.2 points, while small forward Denzel Famble chips in 13.7 points and leads the team in rebounding with 6.0 per outing.
South Carolina State returns to action on this weekend when they participate in the EKU Classic in Richmond, KY. The Bulldogs will tip-off against Longwood University on Friday (Nov. 20) in an 8:30 p.m. start, followed by Eastern Kentucky on Saturday (Nov. 21) at 2 p.m. and Ball State Sunday (Nov. 22) in a 4:30 p.m. showdown.
