Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida A&M women's volleyball team fought off a tough SC State team to post a 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25- 23, 25-20) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win on Friday night at the Al Lawson Center.
Match NotesAll four sets were very close with each team holding respectable leads in each. SC State got to match point first in set 1, but FAMU got three straight kills to take the set. The Lady Bulldogs cruised to a second-set win to tie the match at 1-1. But the Rattlers were able to hold off SC State in the last two sets to pick up their fifth win of the season.
SC State Highlights and StatsMarissa Lawrence and
Brianna Dafney each had 12 kills for the Lady Bulldogs (2-16, 2-4 MEAC).
Kiana Stone and
Kirby Anderson also had double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Stone hit a match-high .500 and added three digs, two assists and 1.5 blocks.
Melanie Williams passed out a season-high 45 assists, while
Marcella Chestnut had 17 digs.
Florida A&M Highlights and StatsPamela Soriano led all players with 14 kills and added 12 digs for the Rattlers (5-17, 5-1 MEAC). Starmichael Tucker (13 kills), Ginna Lopez (12 kills), Valerie Lopez (43 assists) and Valentina Carrasco (18 digs) all had double-digit performances for FAMU.
