Murray Garvin is an Eastern Kentucky graduate, earning a degree in physical education in 1998. The Pikeville, Kentucky native spent three years as an assistant coach at Tates Creek High School in Lexington after completing his degree.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (4-11, 2-0 MEAC) are looking to snap a three-game losing skid against the Colonels. In their last outing, South Carolina State suffered a, 74-54, setback at Fordham on Wednesday. Sophomore guard

Edward Stephens had seven points and five assists.
Stephens leads the Bulldogs with an average of 10.7 points per contest. Junior forward
Darryl Palmer contributes team-best 7.5 rebounds per game to go along with 7.2 points.
The Colonels (7-5) went 2-1 during their recent road stretch, including a 28-point victory at No. 18 Miami and a last second shot to beat Coppin State 66-63 on Tuesday. Senior guard Corey Walden tied his career-best with a game-high 33 points. He also had five steals, four rebounds and four assists. He made 13-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Junior forward Denzel Richardson finished with five points and a team-high seven rebounds.
EKU is led by Walton with 18.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, while senior forward Eric Stutz is second scoring with 12.5 ppg, 5.9 rebounds. Junior guard Ja'Mill Powell adds 10.1 for the Colonels.
South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 10) when the Bulldogs open up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play against last season year's league champions NC Central in Durham, NC. Tipoff is 4 p.m.
