DOVER, DE—The South Carolina State men's basketball team will resume MEAC road play on Saturday (Jan. 17) against host Delaware State in a pivotal league showdown at Memorial Hall. Tipoff for the women's contest is 2 p.m., with the men following immediately afterwards in a 4 p.m. start.
INSIDE THE GAME: The Bulldogs are coming off a two-game road split with NC Central (45-76) on Saturday and N.C. A&T(52-50) on Monday to snap a five-game losing streak. SC State is currently 3-1 in the MEAC and 5-14 overall. Freshman guard
Edward Stephens leads the team in scoring with 10.3 per game, while sophomore guard
Karon Wright adds 8.2 and has 39 three-point field goals to lead the team. Junior forward
Darryl Palmer is the leader on the boards with 7.1 and 7.4 points.
Meanwhile, Delaware State (7-9 overall, 1-1 MEAC) is coming off a 79-76 win over Howard in their last outing on Monday (Jan. 12). Freshman guard Todd Hughes came off the bench to lead the Hornets with a career-high 25 points. Senior Amere May added 17 points, while Kendall Gray recorded his fourth straight double-double and 10
th on the season with 14 points and 18 rebounds. All-MEAC forward Gray is among the top in the conference and NCAA Division I in rebounding in 12.0 per game. He also leads the league in blocks and double-doubles. May is currently second in the league in scoring with 18.3 per contest.
