Box Score 3 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team dropped three matches at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Scenic Showdown this past weekend. On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-21, 9-25, 27-29) to UT-Martin. Then on Saturday, they lost 3-0 to both UT-Chattanooga (25-19, 25-18, 25-13) and Stetson University (25-11, 25-16, 25-18).
Freshman
Kirby Anderson earned all-tournament honors after recording 18 kills, 23 digs, 20 total blocks (one solo) and two assists in three matches.
Against UT-Martin (6-6),
Ashante Finnie had a career-high and team-leading 13 kills.
Melanie Williams had 23 assists and three Lady Bulldogs (0-14) had double-digit digs:
Tyler Ockleberry (15), Anderson (14) and Williams (12). Anderson also had a career-high eight block assists.
Marissa Lawrence finished the UT-Chattanooga (7-7) match with seven kills and had six digs. Williams had 15 assists, three digs and one service ace, while
Erica Pritchett and Ockleberry had 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Anderson repeated her eight-block performance against the Mocs.
Anderson led the way against Stetson (7-5) with nine kills and had seven digs and four total blocks (one solo). Ockleberry tallied nine digs and
Marcella Chestnut had eight.
Lady Bulldogs open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play this coming weekend when they travel to Florida to take on Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. on Friday and Florida A&M at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
