ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team hosts The Citadel at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in its 2014 season home opener. The match will be played at Dukes Gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs are still in search of their first win after dropping the first 10 matches of the season. Offensively, junior outside hitter
Marissa Lawrence leads the team with 77 kills (2.41 kills per set), while junior setter
Melanie Williams has a team-high 139 assists (4.48 per set).
On the defensive side of the ball, redshirt freshman libero
Tyler Ockleberry is averaging 3.94 digs per set (126 for the season) and freshmen middle hitters
Kirby Anderson and
Kiana Stone have 18 and 15 total blocks, respectively. Ockleberry earned all-tournament honors at the Charleston Southern Wingate Invitational Tournament this past weekend.
The Citadel is 3-7 this season and is coming off a 1-3 outing last weekend at the Alabama State ISTAP Collegiate Cup 2 with a win against Savannah State and losses to Southeast Missouri State, Towson and Alabama State.
