Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina A&T women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 win (25-14, 14-25, 25-19, 25-20) over South Carolina State on Sunday afternoon at Moore Gymnasium.
SC State ends the season with a 3-24 overall record and a 3-7 mark in the MEAC. A&T wraps up regular-season play at 6-21 overall and 6-4 in the MEAC. The top four finishers in each division advance to the conference tournament. Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, A&T and NC Central will be the Southern Division's representatives at this year's MEAC Tournament which takes place Nov. 21-23 at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Md. SC State finished fifth in the south and Savannah State was sixth.
A&T rolled to a quick win in the first set, but the Lady Bulldogs controlled set 2. After the Aggies tied the set at 6-all, SC State went on a 19-8 run for the win. But A&T picked up the next two set wins to take the match.
Aleena McDaniel had 12 kills and 11 digs for the Aggies, while Liz Martino had 19 assists and 12 digs.
Marissa Lawrence led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills and added 10 digs and two service aces.
Melanie Williams and
Tyler Ockleberry had match-highs in assists (33) and digs (21), respectively. Williams also contributed 14 digs and
Kirby Anderson had nine kills, eight digs and six total blocks.
