SC State Men’s Basketball Open Regular Season On Road Against Washington

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will open the 2014-15 campaign on the road in a three-game road swing beginning with the University of Washington, Friday (Nov. 14) at Alaska Airlines Arena. Tipoff is 7 p.m. (PST) and 10 p.m. (EST)

The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network and Time Warner Cable Channel 378. Check your local cable provider for channel listing.

South Carolina State will look to improve after a tough 2013-14 season as the Bulldogs posted an overall record of 9-20, and 5-10 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Bulldogs return three starters from last season's team, along with six newcomers to the squad.

Junior forward Darryl Palmer (7.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg) is the top returner for the Bulldog this season, while senior guard/forward Devin Joint (5.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg) returns for his final campaign with hopes of MEAC Championship in sight.

Second-year head coach Murray Garvin will have to rely heavily on his six newcomers to fill the void of departed All-MEAC forward Matthew Hezekiah (12.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and key reserve guard Adama Adams (9.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg).

The Bulldogs return some help in the frontcourt with senior forward (Luka Radovic) and sophomore forward Patrick Kirksey in the post. Junior guard Patrick Myers (6-2, 185), along with sophomore guard's Karon Wright (5-10, 185) and Greg Mortimer provides the much needed depth in the backcourt.

Heading the list of newcomers are freshmen (6-7, 200) forward Tashombe Riley of Orangeburg, SC; Gerdarius Troutman (6-3, 175-Guard) of Butler, GA and Ty Soloman (5-10, 170) of Charleston, SC.

Also joining the Bulldog roster are (6-6, 180) guard Gabe McCray of Bowie, MD, a transfer from Prince George Community College; freshman shooting guard Ed Stephens (6-2, 175), of Columbia, SC who sat out last season out of Grey's Military Academy and junior forward DouDou Gueye (6-10, 245) of Dakar, Senegal a transfer from Western Nebraska Community College.

Garvin's team will get their first look at a very ambitious schedule this season with an nonconference slate that includes the University of Washington (11/14/14), University of San Francisco (11/16/14), University of Virginia (11/18/14), Georgia Southern (11/29/14), Coastal Carolina (12/2/14), Texas Tech (12/17/14), University of Houston (12/19/14), and Eastern Kentucky (1/3/15).
