ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's soccer team will participate in the inaugural Independent Conference Tournament this weekend at Delaware State University in Dover, Del. The four-team tournament features top seed Delaware State, No. 2 Francis Marion, No. 3 NJIT and the fourth-ranked Lady Bulldogs.
Friday's games are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. NJIT (3-12-1) and Francis Marion (3-11-0) square off in the tournament opener and then DSU (3-12-1) and SC State (2-13-0) play in the night cap. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Hornets 2-1 last Friday in Orangeburg.
Sunday's schedule has the losers of games 1 and 2 playing at 11 a.m., while the championship game, slated for 2 p.m., features Friday's winners.
Senior
Dominique Brown leads the Lady Bulldogs with five goals this season. She has taken 45 shots, 26 on goal, and had the game-winning shot in SC State's 2-1 win over Mt. Olive College on Aug. 27.
Freshman
Naydeen Cabalo is the only other active player who scored goals this season. Cabalo has three goals to her credit this year, two of which came in the 3-2 loss at The Citadel. Senior Breia Peirce scored twice this season, but has been sidelined with a foot injury since mid-September.
The Lady Bulldogs' main goalkeeper is
Haley Austin who is 2-9 this season with 104 saves in 14 games.
