Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – Marissa Lawrence had a match-high 16 kills and added 14 digs, while teammate Kirby Anderson hit .435 with 11 kills, nine digs and seven total blocks to lead the South Carolina State women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 25-20) win over Savannah State on Friday night at Wilcox-Wiley Gym.
 
The win was the Lady Bulldogs' first victory for the 2014 season. They improved to 1-16 overall and 1-2 in MEAC play. Savannah State fell to 3-15, 0-3 MEAC.
 
SC State took an early lead in the first set after a kill by Lawrence to go up 10-5. The Lady Bulldogs led the rest of the way, but the Lady Tigers kept it close, getting within two (24-22) toward the end of the set.
 
The Lady Bulldogs breezed through the second set, limiting Savannah State to just 13 points.
 
Set 3 was close the entire way and had a total of nine ties. Down 15-12, the Lady Tigers scored five straight points to take a 17-15 lead. They outscored SC State 8-6 the rest of the way to force a fourth set.
 
Savannah State was up 18-17 in the fourth set, but after a series of hitting errors and SC State blocks, the Lady Bulldogs led 23-19. Anderson got the 24^th point on a kill and SC State took the match on a Savannah State hitting error.
 
Gabrielle Nathaniel had a team-high 10 kills and Caitlynn Masoe had a team-best 21 assists for Savannah State.
 
Melanie Williams had a match-high 28 assists and added seven digs. Shandice Sluch had 12 digs and five kills, Erica Pritchett had nine kills, nine digs and four block assists and Tyler Ockleberry led all players with 15 digs.
 
SC State takes a break from MEAC play to host Charleston Southern on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
