Orangeburg, S.C.—Senior Tori Papp scored the game winning goal off a cross from Kaitlynn Cortez with 4:15 remaining in overtime to lift SC State past Presbyterian, 2-1, in women's soccer.  With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-1-0 on the season.

Cortez recorded three points on the night as she scored SC State's first goal at the 27:04 mark of the first half, which was assisted by freshman Brittany Rodrigue.

“With such a young team and limited subs due to injuries, I'm extremely proud of how our team fought tonight,” said Sandy Burris, who is in her first season as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs.  “I am pleased with how we bounced back after the loss on Sunday as well as the solid team defense we played throughout the game.”

Despite allowing 14 shots, eight on goal, the Lady Bulldogs held Presbyterian (0-1-0) to just one goal, which came in the 87th minute of regulation when Kristen Peagler scored off the scramble.

SC State will host the 2013 Sleep-Inn/Bulldog Classic this Friday and Sunday, Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.  The classic will get underway on Friday at 5 p.m. with Gardner-Webb facing off against the University of Alabama-Birmingham, followed by SC State-Francis Marion at 7:30 p.m.  Sunday's matchups are set to begin at 11 a.m. with SC State hosting the University of Alabama-Birmingham, followed by the Gardner-Webb-Francis Marion contest at 1 p.m.
