SC State Women's Volleyball opens 2013 campaign at Gamecock Invitational this weekend

Orangeburg, S.C. – The SC State University women's volleyball team will open its 2013 season this weekend, Friday-Saturday, August 30-31, at the two-day Gamecock Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina. SC State will open tournament play on Friday at 10 a.m. when they take on the host University of South Carolina. The Lady Bulldogs will then face High Point University at 4 p.m. on Friday. SC State's final game of the tournament will be Saturday at 11 a.m. when they take on Florida International University. All games of the tournament will be contested at the Volleyball Competition Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Charleston, S.C. the next two weekends to participate in the College of Charleston Invitational (Friday-Saturday, Sept. 6-7) and The Citadel Tournament (Friday-Saturday, Sept. 13-14). SC State will host Wofford in their 2013 season home-opener on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in Dukes Gymnasium.

SC State finished the 2012 season with a 9-15 overall record, and tied for second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division at 6-4. Senior Desire Waller, the two-time reigning MEAC Player of the Year, has been named the 2013 MEAC women's volleyball preseason Player of the Year and to the First Team. The Lady Bulldogs as a whole was selected to finish third in the Southern Division of the conference.
