SC State Tennis Teams Close Out Regular Season With Wins

NEWBERRY, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's tennis team close out the regular season in dominating fashion earning a pair of victories on the road over Newberry College  Monday.
       The Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-4 overall, 6-0 in the MEAC with a 7-0 victory over the Lady Wolves in non-conference action. SC State jumped out early claiming the doubles point with Cracin/Dohnalova def. Aguire/Adum, 8-3 and  Barborikova/Nakonechna def. Stung/Lamers 8-3 to earn victories.
        In women's singles action, it was senior Maria Craciun def. Susana Aquire 6-1, 6-3; freshman Katarina Barborikova def. Romina Adum 6-1, 6-4; freshman Klara Dohnalova def. Ariel Strong 6-0, 6-1; freshman Kateryna Nakonechna def. Marina Ziehe 6-1, 6-3; sophomore Victoriia Khatcei def. Tara Lamers 6-3, 6-3; and senior Laura Bosneag def. Shannon McManus 6-0, 6-0.
        On the men's side, the Bulldogs (13-4 overall, 3-1 MEAC) captured the doubles point over the Wolves. Senior Tomas Bizon def.  Michael Saunders  in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot;  at the No. 2 spot senior Anton Protsenko def. Vinicius Botelho 6-4, 6-3; junior Artemiy Nikitin def. Carlos Nicolopulos  6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot; freshman Jiri Stiburek def. Fermando Espana at the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-0; freshman Aziz Yuldashev def. Cal Loveridge in two sets 6-1, 6-2; and freshman Marius Dragoi knocked off David Sons 6-1, 6-0.
         Both teams will compete in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Tennis Championships Friday  April 19-21 in Raleigh, NC at the Milbrook Tennis Complex. The championship is free and open to the public.
