Men's Tennis

SC State Clinch Southern Division Title; Women Finish Undefeated In MEAC

Lady Bulldogs earned 9th straight regular season division title

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA— The South Carolina State men's and women's tennis team closed out conference play with a pair of victories over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Friday at City Island in Daytona Beach, FLa.
        The Bulldogs (12-4 overall, 3-1 MEAC)captured the southern division regular season title and the top-seed in next week's MEAC Tournament  with a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats (12-14 overall, 1-2 MEAC).
         The men jumped out early grabbing the doubles point with PROTSENKO,Anton/NIKITIN,Artemiy def. ROTICH,Gilbert/LIMA,Leonardo 8-2 at the No.1 spot and    STIBUREK,Jiri/BIZON,Tomas def. VARON,Juan/PRONATH,Moritz  8-4 at the No. 3 spot.
          In singles action it was senior Anton Protsenko def. Juan Marion in two sets 6-3, 6-2 at the No.2 spot; junior Artemiy Nikitin def. Kip Jackson 6-3,6-0 at the No.3 spot and freshman Marius Dragoi knocking off Mortiz Pronath 6-0,6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
         On the women's side the Coach Hardeep's team remain the premier women's team in the conference, knocking off the Lady Wildcats (13-10, 3-2 MEAC) in 4-1 decsison. The Lady Bulldogs (13-4 overall, 6-0) keep their undefeated streak alive for the 9th straight season MEAC play.
         All-MEAC performer senior Maria Craciun led the way for SC State defeating  Chinatsu Kajiwara 6-1, 6-2 in two sets at the No. 1 spot; freshman Klara Dohnalova def. Valentina Beresiarte 6-0, 6-1 at the No.3 spot; while sophomore Victoriia Khatcei closed out the win with a 6-2,6-0 victory over Victoria Galyaeva 6-2,6-0.
          Both teams will compete in the 2013 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic) Tennis Championships, April 19-21 in Raleigh, NC at the Millbrook Tennis Complex
