SC State Looks To Avenge Early Season Loss To Savannah St.

Tip-off for the women's contest is 4 p.m., with the men begining at 6 p.m.

SAVANNAH, GA— A new era begins as newly appointed head coach Murray Garvin leads South Carolina State against Savannah State in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic showdown Saturday at Tiger Arena.Tip-off is 6 p.m.
        Garvin looks to reenergize a young and talented group of players will look to snap their 14-game losing streak this season. Injuries have made it difficult for the Bulldogs (4-17, 0-8) during their skid. While freshman guard Shaquiell Mitchell (concussion) is back in the lineup, junior college transfer guard Louis Adams remains out with a high ankle sprain and forward Chasen Campbell is also probable.
         “My thing is to try to win Saturday,” he said. “I'm going to take it a game at a time. My job is to try to get the most out of the least and the best out of the best and that's what I'm going to accomplish. But it is one game at a time.”
SC State is led in scoring by junior forward Matthew Hezekiah with 13.8 ppg, 7.8 rebounds per outing. Senior Khalif Toombs who reached the 1,000th scoring mark against the Tigers in their early season loss is second on the team with 11.7 ppg, while dishing out 5.4 assists per game.
        Savannah State (16-10, 6-2 MEAC) is led in scoring by R. Hassan with 13.1 ppg, while P. Blackman is second with 12.2 points per contest. Louis is the leader on the boards with 7.3 per outing.
      South Carolina State will return to action on Saturday when the host conference rival N.C. A&T in a crucial league     showdown at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 6p.m., immeditaly after the women's contest.
