Bulldogs Ready For Battle With Rattlers

SC State seeks second conference win of season against Florida A&M

Junior guard Louis Adams will look to lead the Bulldogs over the Rattlers Monday night at Al Lawson Center.
TALLAHASSEE, FLA—The South Carolina State Bulldogs (5-20, 1-11 MEAC) will seek their second conference win of the season against a tough Florida A&M Rattler (7-19, 4-8 MEAC) team Monday at Al Lawson Center.
       Coach Garvin and the Bulldogs dropped a tough 85-75 decision to the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at Moore Gymnasium. Meanwhile, the Rattlers edge the Bison 46-45 in a thrilling nail biter in their last outing.
        Junior forward Matthew Hezekiah leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing. Hezekiah recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Teammate senior point guard Khalif Toombs is second with 11.8 ppg, and 5.4 apg.
         Junior guard Adama “Louis” Adams has returned to action after missing seven games to a high-ankle sprain suffered against Bethune-Cookman (1/19/13) earlier this season. Adams has come on strong for SC State since his return averaging 10.9 points.
          Freshman forward Darryl Palmer is having a breakout rookie year with leading the team in blocks (39) and second in rebounds (5.5), while scoring 8.8 points for the Bulldogs. Palmer as had already earned two Mid-Eastern Athletic Rookie of the Week honors this season.
          FAMU is led by guard Jamie Adams with 14.5 ppg, while forward Reggie Lewis chips in 10.7 points per contest. In their last outing the Rattlers defeated the Bulldogs 89-77 (1/21/13) in Orangeburg. Adams poured in a game-high 28 points, while forward Trey Kellum grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds in the victory.
           South Carolina State will return to action on Friday March 1, when they travel to North Carolina to take on league rival the Aggies of N.C. A&T in a pivotal (MEAC) Mid-Eastern Athletic showdown. Tip-off is 4 p.m., immediately after the women's contest.
