SC State Turn Focus To Bethune-Cookman

Bulldogs seek second conference win under Garvin

DAYTONA BEACH, FL—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will open up against Bethune-Cookman in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown, the first of a four-game road swing Saturday.  Tip-off is 4 p.m., immediately after the women's contest.
      SC State enters the contest 5-19 overall, 1-10 in the MEAC, while Bethune-Cookman is 10-16 overall, 5-6 in the league. The Bulldogs suffered a tough 71-52 defeat to second-ranked NC Central on last week, while the Wildcats snapped a two-game skid with a 64-50 victory over Howard.
       The Bulldogs is led by Florida native junior forward Matthew Hezekiah with 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Senior point guard and newly member of the 1,000th point club Khalif Toombs is second with 11.8 ppg, and 5.4 assists. Freshman forward Darryl Palmer has come on strong in his rookie year averaging 8.6 ppg, and 5.5 rebounds.
       Meanwhile, the Wildcats are led by senior forward Adrien Coleman with 17.6 ppg and 6.8 rpg, while teammate Kevin Dukes adds 10 points per outing.
         Coach Murray Garvin and the Bulldogs will take on Florida A&M on Monday in a 7:30 p.m. contest, before hitting the road next weekend to take on N.C. A&T on Saturday and NC Central on Monday. SC State will close out its regular season at home on Thursday, March 7 when they host Delaware State.
