Bulldogs Turn Attention To Eagles

SC State seeks second conference win of season.

ORANGEBURG, SC—After coming off their biggest win of the season upsetting conference rival N.C. A&T 72-70 Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, the Bulldogs must turn their focus to a talented NC Central Eagle team Monday. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m., immediately following the women's contest.
        This will be the 42nd meeting between the two teams with the Eagles holding the lead 22-19 dating back to Jan. 16, 1941.  Since the Eagles made the transition to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference their undefeated at 4-0 versus the Bulldogs.
       SC State (5-18 overall, 1-9 MEAC) looks to keep the winning streak alive and capture their second league win of the season, while NCCU (17-8 overall, 10-1 MEAC) will try and bounce back after suffering a tough 44-36 to Savannah State this past weekend.
       The Bulldogs is led by one of the top point guards in the conference senior guard Khalif Toombs who is second on the team in scoring with 11.9, while dishing out a team-high 5.6 assists. Toombs is No. 11 in the conference on the defensive side of the floor averaging 1.6 swipes a game with 36 steals on the year. Junior forward Matthew Hezekiah leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.4 ppg, and 7.7 rebounds per outing. Freshman forward Darryl Palmer is second on the team in rebounding with 5.5, while being ranked in the top-15 in field goal percentage in the conference.
         The Eagles have three players averaging double figures with junior Jeremy Ingram leading the way with 16.2 ppg, while forward Stanton Kidd chips in 12.8 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding with 7.0 per contest. Senior Ray Willis is the heart and soul of this team adding 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds.
       SC State will return to action this weekend when they travel to the sunshine state to take on Bethune-Cookman on Saturday in 4 p.m. showdown.
